1/30/25:
Mayoral hopeful and current 2nd District Councilor Pat Hogan met with OCM BOCES Construction Technology students on Dell Street in Westcott, where high schoolers are actively participating in the buildout of a new business inside the historic 135-year-old storefront at number 120. This hands-on "job shadow" experience equips students with essential skills to jumpstart careers in the building and construction trades. Reflecting on the visit, Hogan remarked, “Kids learning how to provide for themselves and their families. It was inspiring.”
One of the first buildings erected on the street, the structure was originally intended for commercial use. Known as Cone’s Store, it also served as a local polling place, marking the early development of the Westcott Commercial District. In the 1940s, it housed a barbershop where the father of former Syracuse Common Councilor Nancy McCarty cut hair.
Once completed, the retail establishment will become the newest addition to this storied building, continuing its legacy as a vital piece of the Westcott community and business district.
